P71 Power button not responding to power options (shutdown, sleep...)

Hi guys, my new ThinkPad P71 is a few days old.

The power button works fine to turn it on from scratch.

But when I hit the power button to make it sleep, it doesn't respond to power option configuration for shutdown, sleep, hibernate etc.

Am I missing something or is there a Lenovo configuration overriding it? (closing the lid does put it in sleep mode.)

Setting attached.

Appreciate the help.

Thanks,

Darren.

Same issue with the successor model P72. Seems like the power button does not work as a Windows power button on newer Lenovo models.

Re: P71 Power button not responding to power options (shutdown, sleep...)

Go into the Control Panel / Power Options . Select "Choose what the power buttons do" and see what the "When I press the Power button:".  See what option is says. It shows a valid value, I would select another, click Save Changes and then select "Shut down" and Save changes.

Often, if the proper power driver is not installed, these options are blank and therefore do not work as advertised...

Re: P71 Power button not responding to power options (shutdown, sleep...)

It turns out I needed to press and hold the power button on my P71 a little longer to get it to go into sleep mode.

I hold it for half a second, and it operates sleep correctly. A short tap won't suffice.

Regards,

Darren.

This is amazing. Who would have thought that keeping the button pressed for a little longer actually makes it work as intended???

Thanks for sharing this!
