dear forum members,
i was just checking out the P72 configuration options on the Dutch Lenovo site, and it seems that I only can select the M2 Optane memory option in combination with a conventional SATA hard drive, not in combination with one or two M2 NVMe drives. Is this on purpose? I can imagine the optane takes one of the two M2 slots, but it cannot be combined with an NVMe in the other M2 slot? I am puzzled, anyone with additional info? The User Guide does not mention anything about such a limitation. Having to use superfast Optane with a stone-age HDD is awkward, to say it mildly.
in addition, I cannot enable the RAID option, either with 0, 1 or 2 NVMe drives. Some webmaster screwed up here?

Maybe a hint: the User Guide states that the controller mode in case of an M.2 Optane SSD should be set to AHCI. Does this controller mode apply to both the M.2 slots? That could explain the Optane/NVMe incompatibility. It so, the information from Lenovo marketing is misleading. IMHO there is little gain that we only can use a SATA SSD/HDD in combination with an Optane drive.
Does anyone have some info on this?

I recall that when the Optane technology first came out, the Optane SSDs were somewhere between SATA SSDs and top-of-the-line NVMe SSDs in performance for most workloads, so perhaps the reason is that using an Optane SSD together with an NVMe SSD results in a net decease in performance for many operations. That is just a guess on my part, though.
