P73/P53 Samsung PM983 3.85TB nVmE compatibility ...

2019-11-21, 16:23 PM

Hello!

I am trying to max out internal storage of my P73 all the way possible

I've got 2x2tb + 8tb ssd setup now

I just found out there is a m.2 nvme drive available: Samsung PM983 3.85TB

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/384tb-samsung-pm983-m2-22110-pcie-30-x4-nvme-ssd-phoenix-mlc-v-nand-3000mb-s-read-1400mb-s-write-480

This will add about 3.5tb usable to the setup which is huge

Questions is this compatible?

Form factor appears to be same; PCI lanes and stuff too; What else should I look at?

Thanks!

As long as it is single-sided, it should work in your system. However, I don't know how to compare the thermal requirements. So, you're going to spent $2K on additional drives and toss the 2TB drives that you already have? Hmmmm.....

It is less then $2k here and I can fully recover money spent on 2tb's

(got suitable use for them within the company)

Will probably order one to try ...

900$ including 21% reclaimable VAT, so 711$, not bad actually

[Modified post to fix incorrect link.  AG]

Hello,

From looking at the page, the drive is an M.2 22110 form-factor drive.

I do not have a P73 myself, but you would want to verify that this size drive will work with the P73.  I know that my P72 only holds the more common M.2 2280 form-factor drives.

Sabrent offers a 4TB M.2 2280 NVMe SSD:

https://www.sabrent.com/product/SB-ROCKET-4TB/4tb-rocket-nvme-pcie-m-2-2280-internal-ssd-high-performance-solid-state-drive/

I have no idea if it is compatible with the P73, though.

Correction to my original reply, The SSD card that you are selecting is too long to fit in the P53 (110mm vs 80mm). You will not be able to secure the card in the bay with the screw provided.

:-(
Just noticed that too ...
Well, its already on its way
Maybe i'll be able to Dremel it down or what not, who knows ...
Or maybe there is enough space to slide it below and maybe use thermal pad to push it down

Should have paid attention

There is enough physical space, but the screw-down post will be contacting the underside of the ccb right under one of the large chips.
