If I were to order a ThinkPad P70 with RAID, will I still be able to add two additional SSDs (that I provide) for a total of four drives (two NVMe in RAID 1 and the two additional drives)?
I ask because if I use the online order tools to configure a P70 without RAID, I get these options (two NVMe and two HDD):
However, if I select RAID 0, I’m forced to only get a DVD with no option for a fourth drive.

Thank you for contacting Lenovo with your P70 ThinkPad configuration question. Unfortunately, the P70 configuration only allows for a maximum of three drives, not four.
Additional configuration information can be found here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/System-Configuration-Information-for-P50...

Hmmm. I just ordered one with four drives.
From my order confirmation:
• 1TB SSD PCIe-NVMe
• 1TB SSD PCIe-NVMe
• 500GB HD 7200RPM
• 500GB HD 7200RPM HD Adatper
Also from the link you provided:
Supports two HDDs and two SSDs or one HDD, two SSDs and one ODD
I'm waiting until I get my machine but it appears from what I've read, the updated BIOS will allow me to configure RAID once I get the machine. Fingers crossed. I'll update my post once I have it (two weeks from now).

I believe that you will be OK. I am currently running your approximate configuration using 2 Samsung 850 Pro SSDs and two Samsung SM951 NVMe SSDs (configured to RAID 1) (total of 4 physical drives). No problem with this, but you can only configure 1 RAID array in the BIOS.
I am assuming that the 1TB M.2 drives are Samsung PM961 SSDs. Check the ids in the device manager when you receive the unit. The OS will be installed in your 1 HDD slot (the 500GB HDD) so you'll have to migrate the OS to the RAID array after you've enabled it in the BIOS setup configuration.

Thanks for the info and tips. I plan to replace the Lenovo provided HDDs with SSDs so I'm glad you got it working.
*Edited for correct swap*

I assume that you are going to replace the HDDs with SSDs not the other way around.
