Hi, Marco,

The base vBios comes with the card.  (Old cards can always be purchased on eBay, for example.)  Upon installation, you can always upgrade the vBios with the latest driver.

Cheers,

Ken

Re: Quadro FX 3700M on my W700 dead?

I'm pretty confident that any fx3700m pulled from a HP8730 laptop will work in a W700. Avoid any 'engineering samples'. As mentioned before the Display Port on the W700 might not work (HP8730 did not have a Display Port). Also the second screen on the W700DS might not work. Would need an original Lenovo version for the DS.

Hi, Elbert,

As a point of clarification, you meant FX3700M as opposed to FX3800M right?

Thank you.

Cheers,

Ken

Re: Quadro FX 3700M on my W700 dead?

Display port is the last of may problem, my problem is to spend $ 1600 for a new video card and the pc has a value of $ 1,000, I am try to buy a dell Precision M6700, on ebay.com are located at $3000 a more powerful version although I am in love with my lenovo w700, thinkpad powerful and fast, but after having had problems with the operating system, one hard disk burned, the graphics card burned, my graphics card is just burnt out, you had to feel the smell of burning

Re: Quadro FX 3700M on my W700 dead?

Papuz, if you don't need the higher-speed CAD support of Quadro graphics processors, I'd go with a Geforce graphics processor in any new laptop. Same hardware as a Quadro, but lacks higher-speed CAD support for OpenGL in firmware/driver (Geforce instead uses slower OpenGL support built into Windows), but for over $1,000 less for high-end processors. For example, I bought a new 17" laptop with the same speed as the highest-end M6700 for non-CAD applications, from the same company, with the same warranties, but for 1/3 the price.

In any case, don't swap graphics processors without having experience doing such things, or you could lose whatever you spend on the replacement 3700M. Don't update to any vBIOS besides the versions we've listed, or else you may lose the ability to use the replacement 3700M in your W700. Clean out the tiny air intake vents in the bottom of the W700 under the two fans, or else you'll burn out the replacement 3700M. Also clean out the air outlet vents in the sides/rear of the laptop. Users HAVE gotten the HP cards to drive BOTH internal displays on the W700ds. If you fix/keep your W700, I recommend running it on a Cooler Master NotePal U3 Laptop Cooling Pad with Three Configurable 80mm Fans (R9-NBC-8PCK-GP), centering a fan under each of the two W700 fans, with the cooler set to max cooling, to help preserve the 3700M. Keep your data on the machine backed up to external media in case of failure.

Personally, I'd just buy a new 17" laptop. The W700 is already 4+ years old, new 17" laptops are much faster, they hold 4x more memory, SATA3 is much faster than the W700's SATA2, USB 3 is much faster than the W700's USB 2, displays are now available that are much better (although they're 1920x1080 instead of 1920x1200), external tablets are much better than the W700's internal tablet, you'll get better software/driver support with a new machine, and it costs more time/money to rely on any laptop that's out of warranty.

But, whatever you do, good luck!

Re: Quadro FX 3700M on my W700 dead?

Replacement Fx3700m cards are going for less than $200 on ebay.

I got a whole W700 (with Quad core QX9300, fx3800m and 8Gb) for about $800.

Re: Quadro FX 3700M on my W700 dead?

Thanks again for your answer, really all very nice.
I know that now there are more beautiful and more powerful PCs, although for me with my w700 ssd 8g ram w7 ultimate x64 QX9300 CPU and nvidia fx3700m is really a monster, I tried pc with i7 cpu, sata 3, new card graphics but still have not taken the comparison, it is obvious that if we go to the new top of the range are of course better, but all are in how you use your pC and what you put in, I have seen mac take a few minutes to boot up.

My w700 I have always treated me like a child, if I show you the pictures after 4 years is still new, always clean always treated well, there was dust inside and the graphics card is just so hot that when I played and the cpu I performed only when rendering, I confess that I have always made the most with multiple screens but being a workstation for me it was normal to use it at maximum because the w700 is not never slowed down, but just never was really a train.
So for now I would not change because even paid him very much and I would at least fix it up and sell it, because even here in Italy do not run a lot of money, then I'm a university student in my pockets still run less money
