Re: RAM Upgrade on P1?

Your link isn't working for me.

I always say that the safest thing is to buy memory modules with Lenovo FRU numbers on them.  Also, whenever you buy non-Lenovo memory, check the seller's return policy in case there are compatibility issues.  This is especially important on 32GB DIMMs that are newly introduced.

Just wanted to check if you managed to do the RAM upgrade easily? Any issues? Do you know how easy to upgrade SSD on P1? Also which RAM did you buy for P1?

thanks

Re: RAM Upgrade on P1?

Both RAM and the SSD are socketed and easy to access and upgrade. Safest path is to order the parts through Lenovo Accessories to insure compatibility.

Re: RAM Upgrade on P1?

Hello,

As best as I can tell, those memory modules are the largers 288-pin DIMMs for desktop computers and not the smaller 260-pin SO-DIMMs used with laptops.  Samsung announced 32GB SO-DIMMS earlier this year, but so far I have not seen any for sale yet in the retail channel.

According to the ThinkPad P1 PSREF (platform specification) the computer uses:

64GB non-ECC or 32GB ECC max / 2400MHz DDR4 (ECC function supported
only on Xeon processor), dual-channel capable, two DDR4 SO-DIMM sockets
*Installed DIMMs are actually 2666MHz but run at 2400MHz due to Intel limitation

So you might want to look at getting a 32GB (2×16GB) kit of DDR4-2400 SO-DIMMS until the larger capacity ones become more readily available.

Hello

I started with the SSD.

My favorite option is an NVD M.2 SSD from Samsung, exactly: 970 EVO.

This SSD is very fast.

Much faster, than the factory SSD in Thinkpad P1.

I still do not buy the RAM.
I am investigating the difference between: Ballistix Sport VS Crucial

Does anyone have an opinion?

One problem very important:

This SSD: 970 EVO
He did not bring the screw.
I had to buy it

Yes it is the real situation.
This is the reason for my question.

Thanks for you answer.

Re: RAM Upgrade on P1?

Ballistix will be limited to 2400MHz. You need a RAM module that will support 2666MHz in the default JEDEC specs without needing XMP enabled in BIOS. These should work in 2666MHz: Kingston HyperX 2666 CL15, CORSAIR Vengeance 2666 CL18, G.SKILL Ripjaws 2666 CL18. Pick whatever is easier to purchase and from a retailer that will allow easy returns in case there are still compatibility issues.
