Replace the Usb port for thinkpad p1

Hi everyone,

my laptop fall on the ground on the mouse dongle which pushed the usb inside so its not working now.

I know that we can change the USB assembly but not sure how to remove it from the laptop and what is the number/name of the part and how to replace it.

update I found the information about the parts on lenovo parts which is

Slide USB Conn w/Mylar,New

FRU Only

(0)

Substitutes (1)

Sub Type

Slide USB Conn w/Mylar

Equivalent

how to remove it from the board and how to install the new one. ( also how to get the parts I only found trhe substitutes is that enough or what do you think?

I  will appreciate any help.

You don't mention if your P1 is the 1st or 2nd generation model.

For either case see below for the hardware manuals that describe the removal / installation process. Note that it requires a significant tear-down, including removing the system board.

P1 gen1

pgs 77-80

P1 gen2

pgs 77-80

Edit to add: Encompass shows the 2nd part number: https://encompass.com/item/11826041/Lenovo/01YU837/

HTH a bit.

You're welcome.

If you choose to buy the parts and do the repair, please post back with your experience. It may help others.

Regards.

Re: Replace the Usb port for thinkpad p1

Look at the system board removal video. The USB ports are held in with a set of screws and then are slid back away from the edge to allow the board to be removed. It is possible that you can slide the errant USB port back into position. It's worth the try.

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/HT508551

Click on System Board Removal Video

At the end of the video, it addresses the USB ports and the screws securing them.

You can ignore removing all of the screws for the board as you are only dealing with the ones around the USB port:

Loosen the 4 screws that secure the port to the case, slid the port back into position, tighten the 4 screws.
