Running W530 WITHOUT Battery on 65 or 90 W Power supply

2017-06-16, 17:30 PM

So since the only power supply that charges the battery and runs the W530 AT THE SAME TIME is the 170, and I'm concerned that it won't work on an airplane, I plugged in the 90 W power supply and detached the battery. Voila, the laptop still worked sans battery.

Having the battery attached while operating the W530 is not important to me (unless I unplug it and the the thing goes dead while working on something important). I just want to know what the risks are - We are talking about web surfing, NETFLIX, Excel, Word, etc... Not 3D Gaming...

Surprised that the power supplies work without the battery but are somehow stopped from powering the laptop with a battery attached. I could understand powering the laptop and NOT charging the battery, but when a battery is attached, it's as if there is no power adapter plugged in....
