Hi,
First,
I need to answer the Lenovo technician by this week. He has managed to get a NVMe SAMSUNG MZVKV512 (Samsung 950) replacement for my ThinkPad P70 but he can only keep it until the beginning of next week. After that he has to send it back to Lenovo and if I need a replacement, I have to get a new thicket etc.
I upgraded the Bios to version 1.15
I ran the Lenovo Solution Center version 3.2.002. After I upgraded the BIOS, I got no more errors. I was ask to try it once a day to make sure that everything is ok. On the second day, again I got the following error on Lenovo Solution Center:
Hardware scan has detected one or more failures
Result code: WPE001001-UL7VJE
Device: PCI Express
I installed the Samsung 950 driver from Samsung support. The error went a way for a day or two. Now no matter what I do I get the above error when I do the test.
Is it from Lenovo Solution Center software bug or I need to tell the Technician to replace it? I don’t want to change it if there is nothing wrong with it. Any idea?
Second
I use Discrete Graphics in the BIOS. Now my ThinkPad uses the NVIDIA Quadro M500M.
The problem is from cold Boot the LCD display is always fuzzy. I have to restart the ThinkPad and when I do, the problem will go away. Initially, it would happen randomly from cold boot but now all the time. I am using the latest software from Lenovo for ThinkPad P70 (it was preinstall). Anyone else has encountered this issue? Any idea how to fix it?
Regards,
Sepehr

Hi, MSL500 - how is your P70 after a week? Still video issues and FP probs? Anything else happening? Thanks for the detailed list! My brother's 950Pro m.2 was not recognized by his P70 even after Lenovo tech flashed the bios. Glad yours is screaming along.
Our plan is to build a Win10Pro-64 image from MS download and run Linux on the m.2 and Win10 in a virtual machine, but need to get the 850Pro M.2 working first.
Again thanks, and appreciate any updates as you get familiar with this amazing machine.
Tnx, Charlie

Had a similar Error code IMMEDIATELY after unboxing the P70 !!!
WPE001001-UL7V4N
Lenovo admits that they are having NVMe Issues, but still are shipping machines to customers that are paying a fortune for a laptop....
They are however, willing to replace the machine.
I only wonder if the next one will not have the same issue...

Hi bc07,
I’m sorry that you are having the same problem as I but unfortunately, I do not think your new ThinkPad will not give you the same error or similar error ones once you receive it.
In my original, case Heads up on ThinkPad P70 I was told by someotherguy to upgrade my BIOS and problem with Error 2100 and Error code from LSC WMB008000-UL7VJF will be resolved. I initially refused to upgrade my BIOS as Swiss Support told me if I change my BIOS, which is not on the official Lenovo site it will void my Warranty. I have 5 years next day on-site warranty, which I was not going to risk. Therefore, someotherguy if you are reading this I meant no, disrespect towards you. I was just trying to protect my investment.
Once the new BIOS came, I still had the LSC Error code WPE001001-UL7VJE. The support in Switzerland decided to change my NVMe SAMSUNG MZVKV512. In the meantime, Amy_Lenovo , stated that “The PCI error in Lenovo Solution Center v3.2.002 is a known bug. A corrected version, v. 3.2.003 is in the process of being published.”
After my NVMe SAMSUNG MZVKV512 was replaced by Lenovo support, I waited until the new version of LSC came out. In fact, I have posted about it, “ Lenovo Solution Center Version 3.2.004 Error Code: WPE001001-UL7VJM” It is the latest version. Once I ran the test, I got the following error:
Critical Error
Failed
Device: PCI Express
Result Code: WPE001001-UL7VJM
Now interestingly we have 3 different Error codes:
My original error code was: WPE001001-UL7VJE
Your Error code was: WPE001001-UL7V4N
My last test Error code is: WPE001001-UL7VJM
I am still waiting for someone from Lenovo to confirm or deny that there is still a bug in LSC version 3.2.004.
If there is no bug then I’m sure for time being no matter how many times we change our ThinkPad or NVMe SAMSUNG we will get an error until they, finish their NVMe SAMSUNG stock.
In the meantime, if anyone has time this weekend can you kindly run the Lenovo Solution Center Version 3.2.004 (several times please. I just want to be sure) and see if you get any error.
If you do can you indicate what model of NVMe SAMSUNG you have.
Did it come with your ThinkPad or you purchased a NVMe SAMSUNG 950 Pro?
Many Thanks
Sepy

Hello Sepy,
The P70 is streight out of the box - as I was unboxing and running diagnostics, it failed.
Cheers,

Regarding the PCI Express failure in Lenovo Solution Center on P70, here is what I know:
Based on #2 above we are currently suspecting this is a problem with the diags or the BIOS, rather than an actual hardware problem. We are still investigating it. Sorry for this trouble.
If you have seen this failure, please reboot and then run the test again. Does the failure still happen?

Hi someotherguy,
Exactly correct.
If I reboot and run the test there will be no error.
However, if the system is running for sometime I will definitely get the error.
Just a note I never use sleep/resume on my P70 and still get the error if its been running for sometime.

Sepy

Interesting. Sounds like something time-dependent, i.e. after the parts warm up from use for a while after having been "cold" from overnight OFF state. As to why that would cause a failure in the diagnostics or BIOS, well that's for Lenovo to find.
Sounds similar to another symptom I'd posted about in another thread, regarding the CPU Fan sensor being unreported (to Aida64) when the machine first comes on after being "cold" from overnight OFF state. This lasts for 5-11 minutes until the machine warms up, and then the CPU Fan sensor spontaneously kicks into life and its value is now shown by Aida64. It will now remain reported properly forever, until you next turn off the machine for the night and the whole thing will repeat tomorrow.
I also never use sleep/resume nor hibernate, at least not while I've got it at home and connected to its workstation external monitor, mouse and keyboard. My P70 is either ON or OFF.

Someotherguy,
Has Lenovo fixed the suspected BIOS/firmware issues with NVMe? As I described in different thread, I installed a Samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD in my P70 (exact same model number as what ships from the factory in various P70 configurations), and it is not recognized at all. Worked for 2 days just fine, then Windows froze and upon reboot BIOS/Windows can't recognize it anymore. I get 2100 errors after the BIOS loads. I ran Lenovo Solution Center and it has no errors, but also doesn't list my M.2 hard drive (I'm running things off of the original 500GB 7200RPM drive the computer came with at this point for trouble-shooting purposes).
I'm running BIOS 1.18, but I have also tried reverting to BIOS 1.15 and that does not work either.
user Sepy was able to get his working, but I've tried his solution and it doesn't work for me.
At this point I'm trying to figure out if the M.2 SSD is failed, or if this is still a BIOS recognition issue and I should wait it out for Lenovo to come up with a stable NVMe solution.
