Can anyone vouch for Bios 1.17? It seems like more than one poster here has upgraded the Bios to 1.17 and their machine died for unknown reasons. I've spent the day configuring my replacement P50 and it's exactly "right" except that Bios 1.15 does not show ECC memory (which I supposedly purchased). Memorychip-get makes it appear that the ECC is working but if a Lenovo representative (Amy) says all the Bios versions would report it if you had it, then....
Or better yet, does anyone have ECC memory that is not reported by Bios 1.17, in which case I'll just wait for awhile...

The problem is Windows 10 shutdown behavior. Shutdown by default is sort of like hibernation.
To make Win10 always do a real shutdown

Anyone know how to get into this BIOS? It used to say press enter, now it doesn't say anything except Lenovo, and pressing enter doesn't work.
Tap the F1 key at POST to get into the BIOS.

In response to customer reports of the "With ECC" automatic notation not showing as expected on P50 and P70 ThinkPads configured with ECC memory, Lenovo has provided a solution by releasing an updated BIOS.
UEFI: 1.21 / ECP: 1.14
(Fix) Fixed an issue where BIOS Setup might show incorrect memory information with ECC memory.
For P50 ThinkPads, BIOS v.1.21 can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS106108
For P70 ThinkPads, BIOS v.1.21 can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS106085
