ThinkPad P50 won't boot on Workstation Dock after BIOS update to v1.43

Today I updated my P50 BIOS to latest version available on the Lenovo website:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/rs/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-p-series-laptops/thinkpad-...

Something is seriously wrong with this BIOS update. It worked like charm before, and now it won't boot when docked (Workstation Dock for P50/P70). The only way to use it docked is to first undock it, start the boot process and when Windows 10 logo appears on screen, then quickly re-dock it.

I tried to load BIOS factory defaults, but it did not help. Discrete graphics (M1000M) is forced in BIOS and display priority is set to docking station.

Anybody else having this problem and how did you solve it?

Regards,

Dragan

Re: ThinkPad P50 won't boot on Workstation Dock after BIOS update to v1.43

I just reverted back to v1.42 and everything works perfectly fine again.

It's definitely a problem with BIOS v1.43.

Re: ThinkPad P50 won't boot on Workstation Dock after BIOS update to v1.43

Dear DraganO,

developmente team is concerning about the issue but they could not duplicate the symptom so far.

Can you describe more detail your system configuration information such as connected external monitor vendor/model information, attached USB devices ?

Re: ThinkPad P50 won't boot on Workstation Dock after BIOS update to v1.43

Hello,

Thank you for your quick attention to this matter.

These are peripheral devices connected to my dock:

1) Dell P2415Q 4K monitor (via Display Port)
2) Logitech C922 Web Cam (USB)
3) MXL AC-4244 Executive Web Conferencing Microphone (USB)
4) YubiKey Nano (hardware two-factor authentication USB dongle)
5) Logitech USB keyboard/mouse wireless dongle

I experimented yesterday with connecting and disconnecting peripherals, I finally found out what causes laptop to freeze during boot, when docked:

I have a Dell Soundbar AC511 on the bottom of the monitor. It is connected via special USB cable to the monitor, and when I disconnected it, all problems were gone - P50 started booting normally when docked (tried at least 10 times). When I reconnected the sound bar, notebook starded freezing again, immediatelly after displaying red Lenovo logo. When that happens, even disconnecting from dock will not help - I need to press power button for ~5 seconds to forcefully turn it off.

The only way to use the notebook docked with the sound bar connected is to start the boot process undocked, wait until windows logo appears, then re-dock it. Then everything works fine, but since it is very awkward, I simply disconnected the sound bar until this BIOS bug is fixed in some of the future updates.

Best regards,
Dragan

Re: ThinkPad P50 won't boot on Workstation Dock after BIOS update to v1.43

I have found that when the Oculus Rift USB is plugged directly into the Lenovo P50, that it won't get past the Lenovo logo boot screen in BIOS 1.43. Previous to 1.43, it booted just fine.

Dear customers,

development team identified the root cause of this issue and preparing the solution on BIOS.

Expected BIOS release date would be early December.

Hi,

Any news on the BIOS fix for this problem? I'm currently running BIOS version 2.25 and the problem persists.

Thanks
