Using a thinkpad P70 with the new workstation dock.
If I put the P70 on the dock with the lid closed and press the power button on the dock the laptop powers up but nothing appears on the two display port monitors that are connected to the dock.
If I put the P70 on the dock, open the lid and press the power button on the laptop then the laptop boots ok. I can then close the lid and continue work off the two connected monitors.
I want to know how I can avoid having to open and close the laptop lid since it kind of destroys the point of having a docking station.
Had a W510 beforehand and it did not display this problem.

Solved this. Went into BIOS settings; display and changed boot device to monitors connected to dock. When the laptop is powered on with the lid closed it now displays windows login screen on the primary monitor.

I had the same problem, and did want you did too, but are you able to see the bootscreen or only when Windows finished booting ?
I'm trying to see the boot process, like been able to change the booting device and it doesn't work while been on the dock.

I had to change graphics to be forced to discrete. The P70 seems to alternative between NVideo and the inbuilt intel video driver - badly. Forcing discrete and everything much better.
