ThinkPad W500 eSATA compatible?

2009-08-03, 16:04 PM
I just purchased a thinkpad w500 and an external HD that is eSATA compatible.  I was wondering if the newer w500's are eSATA compatible - is there an eSATA port on the laptop?  If not, would I get eSATA speeds with an eSATA to USB 2.0 adapter?

The newer W500's still don't have esata, I really wish mine did too, but I was able to get a esata to pci-express adapter, I have noticed varying speeds, not the greatest but sometimes good. I have tried it on a macbook pro also and worked even better. I believe my problem may be the drivers, their a bit of a pain on the Rosewell model I got but you should give it a shot, might work better with your hard drive or something, plus you can always return it within a certain amount of time.

Would this work?  I kind of like the flush idea of the express card.  Also, it seems like there are 2 express card slots in my comp.  If I only install one, will this leave other slot open and prone to damage such as sand because the protective flap won't close?

Yea that should work. There is only one PCI Express, the loser one should be PCI I believe. PCI express has like 2 sizes, 54mm and 34mm. The 34mm works fine, it just slides right in, might be a little prone to disconnecting if bumped, I don't use mine all the time but I usually don't have too much trouble. Try it out for yourself
