ThinkPad W510 BIOS and UEFI capability

2019-02-26, 7:42 AM

Can someone in the know confirm if the ThinkPad's W510 (4318CTO) BIOS is UEFI capabe?

I'd like to convert my system disk from MBR to GPT.

Thank you.

Hello,

According to the ThinkPad W510 Hardware Maintenance Manual, the W510 has built-in UEFI diagnostics, so it sounds like UEFI is available.  Unfortunately, I'm about 1,200 miles away from W510, so I can't boot mine up to look what it says in the firmware myself.

W510 does not support booting in UEFI mode from a GPT-partitioned disk.  This capability wasn't added until W520.  UEFI boot with Secure Boot wasn't added until W530.
