ThinkPad W530 Power Jack Replacement

Hi, I'm trying to replace the power jack in my W530 and I've run into a little problem-- I can't actually get the power jack out of the housing. I've disassembled the laptop to the point where I can replace it, but I can't actually get the jack itself out, it seems to be glued in to the extreme. Does snyone have any tips on how to get the power jack out? I already have the replacement part ready to go. Thanks in advance.

Re: ThinkPad W530 Power Jack Replacement

It is not glued. It is screwed in from the bottom of the magnesium frame. The frame must be removed from the base

Re: ThinkPad W530 Power Jack Replacement

Thanks so much! I replaced the jack, turned my computer on, and it booted before saying "fan error." I didn't reapply thermal paste, so I'll do that and hopefully everything will work. :smileyvery-happy

Re: ThinkPad W530 Power Jack Replacement

Alright, laptop is working! However, it says the battery isn't charging-- either in the system tray or the LED indicators on the outside. However, as long as it's plugged in, I can use my laptop and the battery won't decrease. Any ideas for what the problem might be?

EDIT: Never mind, it died on me again. A little frustrating.

Re: ThinkPad W530 Power Jack Replacement

Welcome to the forum

You can find the necessary steps in the hardware maintenance manual: (source: click me!)

Be aware that replacing the power jack means disassembling quite a few parts, you can see the details on chapter 9 - 1210, page 105 (check the page # printed in the document, not the one your pdf viewer says).

Re: ThinkPad W530 Power Jack Replacement

Tasurinchi. Thank you for the welcome. :-) And thank you for the info. I have been scouring the manual to no avail, though as you recommend, I will look again in Chapter 9-1210, page 105.

I presume you know of no video or screen shots for the W530 PowerJack or a similar model? Thanks again. Ted08540

Re: ThinkPad W530 Power Jack Replacement

Tasurinchi. No disrespect but what you say is NOT there. There is NOTHING at all regarding the DC Charging Port. Not in Chapter 9, nor 10, nor 8. No diagram, now words, nothing, and when I search the PDF for the term DC Charging Port, it highlights the letters DC, and refers to a part number. :-(

Re: ThinkPad W530 Power Jack Replacement

I guess you should check in Youtube, there use to be repair videos hosted in the Lenovo Support site, but I can't find now the ones for the W530/T530.

The power jack should be easy to find, here's a picture out of an eBay auction: click me!

Be careful to get one exactly for the W530 and not one for a T530.

Happy hunting!

screen.JPGIf I remember correctly, it has an additional screw on the base (not shown in the manual). Or maybe it was in the W520... I have disassembled a few W530, but it was a while ago... Smiley Sad
