Thinkpad P43s Memory upgrade 32GB to my 8GB on board.

2020-01-25, 11:44 AM

Hello,

I recently puchased new Thiankpad P43s which came with 8GB Ram 2400 MHZ DDR4 soldered to the board, and im thinking to add an additional 32GB to have a total of 40GB, thing is i was unable to find 1X32GB at 2400MHZ only 2666MHZ, so my question is will the 2666MHZ work without any comflicts if i install it along with the 1X8GB soldered 2400 MHZ ?

Any advise would be highly appreciated.

Thank you,
VA

Read the laptop specification:
http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_P43s/ThinkPad_P43s_Spec.pdf

The quote:
"48GB max / 2400MHz DDR4, dual channel capable,
8GB or 16GB memory soldered to systemboard, one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket
* Installed memory is actually 2666MHz but run at 2400MHz due to Intel limitation"

So, if new SO-DIMM is capable to work at 2400 MHz, it should work with 8 GB onboard RAM in P43s

Hello,

I am typing this on a P43s with 16GB on-board and one 32GB DDR4 2666MHz SO-DIMM installed.  No issues with having a greater amount of memory installed in the one SO-DIMM slot than what is soldered on board.

Hello,

I installed a Samsung 32GB DDR4-2666 SO-DIMM (model M471A4G43MB1).  It appears to be identical, spec-wise to Kingston part KVR26S19D8/32, so I am guessing it should work.

General wisdom around here is to avoid any RAM with "value" in the name - the "V" in that part number.

It may well work, but odds are better if you avoid any vendor's bargain line.
