Thinkpad P50, Plugged in, not charging

Hello,

I had recently purchased the Thinkpad P50 just 3 months ago. Since yesterday, I have noticed laptop battery is showing "plugged in, not charging" . I am using Windows 10. How to resolve it ? Please suggest

Re: Thinkpad P50, Plugged in, not charging

It normally won't charge a battery that is mostly charged.  This prolongs the life of the battery.

Re: Thinkpad P50, Plugged in, not charging

It is not a good idea to charge a laptop battery to 100%, it damageing the cells and shorten the life of the battery.

Re: Thinkpad P50, Plugged in, not charging

My worry is , if battery charge drop to 95-90 % then  it'll remain to that level.. What do you say ?

Re: Thinkpad P50, Plugged in, not charging

A standard behaviour in the Thinkpad-series is charging when below 90% and stops at 96%. This start and stop-values can be modified in Lenovo Power Manager.

Re: Thinkpad P50, Plugged in, not charging

I have had this same problem with my P70.

If you have just upgraded, either explicitly or through a background process to Windows 10 Anniversary Edition, this seems to happen.

My cure:

Shutdown, then remove all peripherals (including Lenovo docking station).  Remove Power Brick.  Reboot.

Check to make sure to unset FASTBOOT  (Anniversary Edition seems to reset all kinds of settings).

Check all power settings that relate to charging threshold for batter (as described in previous posts).  Reset to charge always to 100%.

Reboot.  Computer should charge normally until battery is full.  Hopefully, problem will now be resolved.

Change charge threshold to a lower value, to preserve battery life.

Please let us know if this helps.
