Hey... i got my new Thinkpad P50 today...
But it just doesn't boot. I got it from an online shop and i ordered a RAM-Upgrade... so additional 16 GB of Ram were already installed. One guy from the shop said, that this problem does not happen the first time...
I tried to start it without the akku... but no reaction.
Anyone got similar problems and perhaps a solution ?

Whenever memory was added/removed, it takes about 1 minute for the machine to "recognize" it. Then the machine will reboot one more time (automatically).
Did you wait long enough?

No. Just sit and wait for a couple minutes. It should reboot twice to recognize the new change. After that, it'll be just normal boot.

Ok i tried it... nothing changed
when i press the power button it blinks 3 times... then i wait 10 minutes and nothing happens.
when i press the power button for a longer time... it doesn't boot, too
when i try the things again without the akku.... nothing changes :/

Hi,
I have a P70, and mine seems to have the same issue: it does not boot up.
I did not do anything related the RAM. The last thing i did was to install ubuntu 15.10 with gnome. After the installation completed, it attempted to reboot, then the display went dark and the laptop does not response anything.
I tried to force it to shutdown by pressing and holding the power button. When i open it again, it does not boot.
The keyboard backlight and indicators for capLock and numLock turn on and off right after i turn on the laptop. Then the laptop just stays what it is. Display is constantly dark. I tried hitting cap locks / num locks, but their indicators do not have any response.
I am also trying to find a solution.

It probably made permanent damage to BIOS or firmware of a component. Not a first time that such thingy is known to destroy hardware, there were known cases with a DVD drives http://linux.slashdot.org/story/03/10/25/1737244/l
Check whether it is supported by Lenovo otherwise I would have doubts whether warranty applies.

That's the solution:
1. Take out the CMOS battery for some minutes (4-5)
2. Put it back
3. Start the device and update the BIOS to version 1.15
We - a reseller from Germany - found out about this problem and fixed a lot of devices - a LOT!! No fun at all, if you know the background.
Questions? PN please.
Cheers
PS: No solution from Lenovo so far????? What's up guys?

Given number of P50 and P70 issues the Lenovo quality has reached another step down ![]()
Is it caused by adding the RAM module or just random ?

It has nothing to do with additional RAM or whatever. It's just an old BIOS Version that causes the problem.
