Thinkpad P51 - Battery continues to drain with a 90W travel power supply

2020-02-09, 16:51 PM

Hi All,

Scenario -

I have a Lenovo P51. I am using the power supply of my older Lenovo as a backup power supply while travelling (90W). I noticed that the battery keeps draining (about 1% every 4 minutes) when the laptop is running with this power supply.

The laptop has no problem charging when it is in Sleep mode.

Question

What is the minimum wattage neccessary for a P51 power supply to keep the systems running without draining the battery ?

Vantage settings -

Battery details

Thanks,

Sau

135W should be fine. Try the new slim charger from X1E, P1

Sau, I'm not sure about the P51, but the P53 (non-S version) ships with a 135w power supply; I would assume that its ancestor P51 would have as well.  If that's the case, then yes it's not realistict to expect a 90w power supply to be able to keep up with a powered-on unit.
