Re: Thinkpad P52 / p72 with 128GB RAM

That's a different chipset and generation of CPU

Re: Thinkpad P52 / p72 with 128GB RAM

Reading through this thread I see that some might find thess real life experiences useful.

I bought a 32GB P72 (Xeon) from a reseller earlier this month.  Put 2x32GB Samsungs in it and now running at 96GB no problems.  A friend purchased a 16GB P52 (i7) around the same time and did the same upgrade as I, now successfully running at 80GB.

Awesome. Thank Hartmannsson for sharing your experience!!!

Would you please advise the exact Samsung Memory Product number that you were able to install into your laptop?

Is it M471A4G43MB1-CTD?

Cheers

Tina

That's the one tinatan.  I got mine from scan.co.uk for just under £500.

Re: Thinkpad P52 / p72 with 128GB RAM

I also put a M471A4G43MB1-CTD in my P72 (8GB was installed) to get 40G memory.

It's not recognized in BIOS or Win10, although latest BIOS version and drivers are installed.

Only see the module in cpu-z.

Any ideas?

UPDATE: Did a shutdown and started after 10sec. Now it works.

Re: Thinkpad P52 / p72 with 128GB RAM

I tried 2 of these and 4 of these, also in combination with the 4x 16GB SODIMMs I already had installed (64G total, prior).

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N124XDS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They did not work.  I could find any combination that the RAM was recognized.

I'm returning them.

BEWARE.

Re: Thinkpad P52 / p72 with 128GB RAM

Hi mykesx-

Thanks for the information. I also own a Lenovo P52 (09/2018) with a Xeon (E-2176M) and installed 64GB (4x16GB) of 2666MHz RAM that needs to be upgraded to 100GB RAM to review large three-dimensional medical imaging files.

You say that installing four 32GB DDR4 SODIMM 2666MHz Samsung sticks  to create (128GB) did not work.  Also installing two 32GB Samsung sticks along with two 16GB Lenovo (i.e. Samsusng) installed sticks to create (96GB) did not work.  Did you update the BIOS  to the current N2CET46W (1.29) before installing the new 32GB sticks?  Updating the BIOS removes the RAM speed throttle so that the Lenovo installed 16GB sticks run at max speed 2666 MHz instead of 2400 MHz.  I found I needed to enable and save the BIOS, then shutdown, and remove the battery for a few minutes before the current (operating) speed equaled the maximum speed of 2666MHz. No more 2400MHz.   I wonder if this latest Lenovo BIOS update also allows you to exceed 64GB?

Can anyone confirm that once the BIOS is updated to (1.29) and the 2400MHz speed throttle is removed, then the 64 GB limit can be exceeded with the 32GB DDR4 SODIMM 2666MHz Samsung (M471A4G43MB1) sticks?  Has anyone installed four 32GB Samsung sticks into a P52 to create an operational 128GB system?  Are the 32GB Samsung sticks ECC or non-ECC?  Has anyone combined two 32GB Samsung sticks with two existing Lenovo 16GB sticks to get to 96GB since they are all DDR4 SODIMM 2666MHz Samsung sticks?

Thanks in advance.
