Thinkpad W510 dead

2018-12-03, 19:25 PM

I have a W510 that I put into hibernate. I then pressed the power button to re-start it, but nothing happens.

The 'most' that will ever happen is that the green battery light comes on on the outside.

What I've tried:

  1. Disconnected power and battery

  2. 1 + diconnected Bios battery

  3. 1 + press and hold the power button for 10+ seconds, with 30+ second breaks (repeating about 15 times)

  4. swapped hard drives (didn't expect that to do anything)

  5. swapped power cords

  6. docked it, and tried

  7. power without main battery under various of the above scenarios

I have not done any changes to the machine before the problem for a number of weeks.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I am assuming when you pulled the BIOS (CMOS) battery, the power and main batteries were already disconnected.  After you pull the CMOS battery, press and hold the power button a couple of times.  Wait 30 seconds and put it back together..

That is correct. Unfortunately without any success.

Since you have a dock, I have one more thing to try before I suggest it might be "time for computer heaven".  The power button being shorted can cause similar symptoms.  Remove the keyboard and plug the computer into the dock.  Plug the dock in and press the power button on the dock.  Hope for a miracle.

Thanks! Unfortunately, no luck here, either. :(

Appreciate the help, though!

Been a good laptop for me... 8 years, 2 cooling fans.
