2017-10-03, 11:47 AM

Hello,

I have a question how/where to find drivers for Thinkpad W510.

When I go to download section and enter my SN, type or W510 just got message that there is no such product.

Well, am I blind or what?

No, there is no typo, have checked it couple times. Tried global, different searches, but no avail. There is no link that will gide me to download page.

I'm searching Windows 7 64bit drivers.

Type: 4391-B49

S/N: R9-*****   11/03

Product ID: 431B49

Thank you.

The drivers have been moved to the end of life support page: https://download.lenovo.com/eol/

Dear all,

wouldn't it be better that the official website would know the product 'W510' and directly inform the user over EOL.

When was the EOL date for the W510? Is there any possibility to have an overview regarding this? I have searched and only found an information regarding the server or storage EOLs.

Is this also the reason why my system update application does not show any packages anymore? So is the application 'System Update' now useless for my W510, so I should remove?

To be honest, from my point of view it's a great pitty and a little surprise that the ThinkPad W510 reached EOL for security updates. In a time where we have several security issues with severity high:

I installed the Intels detection tools and they confirmed a vulnerable system.

Hi LenovoUser2010,

Forgive me if i misread what you said.  The 1st link you show does have a patch listed for the W510.  Are you saying you patched it and it still shows vulnerable?  OR you didnt see the patch on the link you showed?

As to the 2nd link my understanding is, it doesnt affect the W510 based on Intels article.  It affects Intel 6th, 7th and 8th Generation chip which the W510 does not have.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000025619/software.html

I personally was impressed Lenovo patched a system that is 8 years old.  I still use my W510 daily.

Hi green5178,

I have to apologise, you're right.

My fault - I've missinterpreted the Listing, thought There should be an entry like the Listing with the W520, skipped reading after Reading the T-series.

But I got confused due to the App 'System update ' does not work at the moment.

For the second link; I installed the Intel Check and There was no clear answer with the hint that the System could be vulnerable; maybe it checked that the previous patch was not installed.

I'll Patch my system and thanks for your hint.

P.S. I still love to work also daily with my W510; you're right, now I have to correct my statement: also Impressed by Lenovo keep patching old premium products, but still missing an open and transparent EOL communnication.

Regards

Hi LenovoUser2010,

I agree with you.  I wish there was an actual list of machines that are EOL.  OR make it more elegant in the sense, if i search for W510, instead saying nothing found just redirect me to the EOL website.

By the way here is the link for EOL.

https://download.lenovo.com/eol/index.html?linkTrack=Mast:SubNav:Support:More:Other%20Lenovo%20Brands|End%20of%20life%20Products%20Archive

Also its quite easy to make the same mistake you did.  I know because i did same thing orginally.  I didnt realize i had to look in the "T" series area for a W510 security patch.

My W510 was really slow with old 500gb spinner drive.  Once i put in the Samsung 850 EVO 1TB 2-3 years ago it really "saved" this machine for me.  Instead of 5 minutes to boot up to usable machine it takes about 20-30 seconds.  Its only slow on heavy flash sites.  It does run a little hot but it got a lot better after i put in new thermal paste.  But for a 8 year old machine i'm very happy.

As to vulnerability.  Below is what discovery tool results show for me after patching.

I have successfully upgraded my W510 from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and Intel Detection Tool shows "The System is Vulnerable". Unfortunately the link you posted to the patch shows the page is no longer available.

http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/downloads/DS012852

In fact none of the links to ThinkPads which also require "Minimum Patch Version to Fix - 6.2.61.3535" (T410 & W701) are working. Can anyone help me find the appropriate patch?

You may be out of luck with the W510.

Intel decided that some CPUs were too old to bother patching.
