Thinkpad W530 problem - Microphone not working

Hi,

My W530 microphone's not working. Whenever any problem tries to use it (skype, audacity), it always shows a quick activity (about 0.5 ms), always with the same from - and nothing more, ever.

I have installed drivers from realtec, and the drivers from lenovo, nothing works.

I done wha said in all other forumes (sound->manage sound devices), - disable listening, disable all featues or enable, as well as chagne settings to the highest availble. Nothing helps.

This has been so since I bought this computer about a month ago.

OS: Windows 7 64bit

Please help

Re: Thinkpad W530 problem - Microphone not working

Hi, matanm

I would recommend making sure that you have the latest BIOS for your machine installed, as an older BIOS can sometimes cause issues with the microphone. The latest update for your BIOS can be found here.

Hope it helps,

Adam

Re: Thinkpad W530 problem - Microphone not working

Hi again, matanm

Can you navigate to Device Manager and open up the tree for Sound, video and game controllers? What devices are listed here, and are any of them showing errors or warnings?

Thanks in advance,

Adam

Re: Thinkpad W530 problem - Microphone not working

Hi again, matanm

Thank you for that information. I would recommend trying to uninstall the Realtek driver. This will let Windows install a generic driver. If the generic driver works properly, then I would try installing the latest Realtek driver again. To uninstall the Realtek driver, right-click on the Realtek High-Definition Audio in Device Manager and select Properties. From here, select the Driver tab and click on Uninstall at the bottom of the window.

Best of luck. Let me know how it goes,

Adam

Re: Thinkpad W530 problem - Microphone not working

Hi again, matanm

Is the microphone still coming on for a brief second before not working again, as you mentioned in your first post? Also, can you take a screenshot using the Snipping Tool of your Sound ► Recording settings? You can navigate to this by right-clicking on the Sound icon in the taskbar and selecting Recording devices. Also, if you haven't already, I would download the Realtek driver again from Lenovo's website here

Thanks in advance,

Adam.

Re: Thinkpad W530 problem - Microphone not working

Hi again, matanm

At this point, I would contact customer service in Israel, as I cannot think of any other software issues that could be responsible for this. This is also reinforced by the fact that the microphone has not worked since you bought the machine. The number for support in Israel is +972-3-531-3900.

Best,

Adam
