Thinkpad W541 wouldn't boot up

2018-12-17, 3:35 AM

When I try to boot up my Thinkpad W541, I get the following message: "To interupt normal startup, press enter".

The machine just freezes at this point.  When you press enter, nothing happens.  The display just continues to display the above message.  When you press the power button to turn off the machine, nothing happens.  You can't turn off the machine with the power button.

Any suggestions?

I hope it's not a motherboard issue, but try the following:

Disassemble the entire unit down until you expose the fans and CMOS battery.

Plug out all RAM and the keyboard. Clear the CMOS battery for about 60 seconds.

Reconnect everything. See if it boots up now

Otherwise, you could be looking at a failing hard disk.
