I checked my P51 here, but I don't have that problem. The correct version pops up.
Can you try updating the thunderbolt firmware manually from here? https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-P-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-...

just now i have an other pop up message. (cf screenshot)
This popup is showing the correct version. Unlike your previous screenshot which showed garbage.
If you want to avoid the popup completely, you have to disable Vantage automatic check for updates.
Vantage -> System Update -> Auto Updates and disable Critical Updates. Then, you will only see the popup when you run Vantage and manually check for updates. But you won't see it any other time.
I heard that Thunderbolt team is working on a new version checking tool that won't cause this popup every time Vantage checks for updates, but I don't know when it will be finished.

I have had a similar issue except I have traced my pop-up notification to when the AC power adapter is plugged in. I originally got the message posted in the original post, but I have since updated the firmware and receive a non-jibberish value now. I do not use any Thunderbolt devices and do not have Vantage installed. My issue is a little different in that the computer now reports that my AC adapter is unknown and that it will not charge the battery. Has anyone else noticed this behavior during the issue experienced in this thread (specifically, the notification immediately after plugging in)?
