USB 3 not working on new 170W MiniDock with USB3

I have been waiting for Lenovo to release a MiniDock that will let me use USB3 with my external hard drive when the W520 is in the dock.

So I just bought the new 433835U (which replaces the eSATA port with a USB3 port).

Now the problem -- when the USB3 hard drive is plugged into one of the USB3 ports on the un-docked W520, it shows up as connected through the Renesas USB3 controller (using the USBView shreware to see the entire USB tree).  But when connected through the USB3 port on the new dock, it shows up as part of the USB2 tree, with nothing connected to the Renesas USB3 controller.

I had hoped that upgrading to the new USB3 driver (2.1.32.0) on the Lenovo site would solve the problem (its feature is listed as "(New) ThinkPad Series 3 Docking Station with USB 3.0 family."), but the USB3 port on the dock still seems to be acting as a USB 2 port.

Any ideas?

Sorry to hear of your problem. I wanted to go the same route as you, but was unsure if the USB 3.0 port on the new dock would function as such with the W520. Now I guess I have found out.

Once again the Lenovo customer is left holding the bag. "That's how it's designed" doesn't really cut it. The marketing literature should call out this limitation explicitly.

So does this mean that using the W520 on the new USB3 dock, the USB3 ports operate at USB2 speeds?

What about using the W530 on the USB3 dock?

What is the driver that is installed for the USB 3.0 Host Controller? You have to manually update the driver as the update installation does not do so:
