Upgrading to SSD for my W540

Hello there,

I have W540 workstation with 500GB 7200 RPM and I would like to upgrade to SSD and can I use my existing windows licence on newly purchased SSD.

I would also like to downgrade my OS from windows 8.1 64 bit to Windows 7 64 bit.

Please Help me!

Yes, one can upgrade the existing HDD to SSD and activate using the same Windows license. Click here for similar discussion.

You can check whether you system comes with Downgrade rights from here. For similar discussion if system doesn't comes with downgrade rights check this & this.

I hope the above information helped you.

That would be another yes for you as this system has an option to upgrade the secondary storage through removing the Ultrabay slot which is existing ODD (DVD rom).

Check this thread for more details. And regarding SSD you can check the OEM parts from here

Also Samsung 840 EVO, 840 PRO or 850 PRO works fine through some of the threads. You can also use Crucial SSDs aswell.

I hope the above information helped you.

Prabhansh
