W Series Laptops Shipping discussion (2010)

All,

Post your shipping and order management experiences here:

Here are some common points of frequent discussion:

Avoid Credit Holds - ensure that BOTH your bill to and ship to addresses are listed with your CC bank before ordering
Lenovo will NOT bill your card until order ships - an authorization charge hold to check for available balance may show up when order is first placed.
Estimated ship dates are based on default lead time and can vary from what was displayed on website.
In the US and Canada, Lenovo utilizes UPS for new product shipments
Orders may ship before the Estimated Ship Date
Orders may enter through Alaska and pass through Louisville, KY before traveling on to final address
Cancellation requests may take up to 2 days to process
Requests to change configuration or other aspects of the order may require the order to be rebooked.
Lenovo does not accept payment via international credit cards, except AMEX.

My Firm has used Dell forever, Several years ago I bought a ThinkPad for my Daughter to use at college. The Laptop has been great and CS excellent.

SO I decided on 12/1 to order a w500 to test for my firm (I plan to add or replace about 25 laptops next year).

The delivery date was set for 12/28, on 12/28 the date was moved to 1/18. Is this an indication of a slipshod organization?

Should I stick with dell for my business computing purposes?

Let me know what you think.

A very dissatisfied customer

Sometimes delays happening.  You are getting a custom laptop.  If you want a BMW, you have to wait for them to make it.  If you want kia, you can just go buy it at the dealership.

You always get what you pay for.

Good things take time.  Suck it up and wait.  Or throw a fit and go by a crap laptop somewhere else.

That's been my experience with ThinkPads too.

I think it's an indication that Lenovo's order fulfillment process could stand to be improved. Overall slipshod organization? No.

Up to you. I personally think ThinkPads are better machines. What I would recommend is that if you need your new ThinkPad(s) by a specific date, that you order them from a third-party retailer (such as CDW) who has them in stock.

Best regards,

Frank

Re: W series shipping thread

I don’t understand, your point, I think your saying  its OK for a company to give a delivery date that is meaningless, Luxury car dealers or otherwise. You should only deal with companies that have more integrity than that. My customers' wouldn't stand for such practices.

I am not taking a position on what should or should not be. You, I, Lenovo, and any other parties who may read this will have different opinions about that.

I'm just stating what I believe to be the current situation when buying a new Lenovo. You have two options:

Option 1: Buy it directly from Lenovo

Pros: Low price, ability to customize it

Cons: You can't be sure when you will get it - estimated delivery date is unreliable

Option 2: Buy it from a 3rd party retailer who has it in stock

Pros: You can touch it (best case, if local retailer); you get it very quickly

Cons: You may pay more; you must pick from a few available configurations

You pays your money, you takes your choice.

I don't mean to imply that you'd be wrong to decide to go with Dell or another company, either.

Best regards,

Frank

Re: W series shipping thread

When you purchase a PC you can have:

High Performance/Reliability

Low Cost

Reasonable shipping time

Pick any 2 of the 3

jdmba,

No offense taken. Smiley Happy

I wasn't sure you were talking to me, but decided to state my point as clearly as I could.

I hope you find new laptops that will work for you and your firm.

Best regards,

Frank

Re: W series shipping thread

Look jdmba, I don't work for Lenovo and my point is simple.  These Thinkpad laptops are high quality machines that generally cost more than prices at other firms.  These are business class laptops.  Unfortunately for all of us, it seems Lenovo is the only company that makes business class laptops.  Sometimes delay happen.  When you are ordering a custom laptop, you need to expect that delays will happen.  To threaten to take your business to another company because of this delay tells me more about you than Lenvovo.  Many people have complained of delays, by my point to you is simple.  If you want a high quality laptop at a good price, you're going to have to wait for them to ship it you.  If you want to go by a less well built laptop from Dell/HP/insert brand here, you'll probably get it sooner.

Heh, at least you aren't in my shoes.  I'm waiting on a T500 that is already ordered.  Plus, I've delayed ordering a W700 because the new W710s are coming out and I want to get an i7 processor.  So I am going to wait until at least March before I can buy the W710 and then probably have to wait another two months before I actually see the machine.

Stuff happens man.
