W500 - How can I enable dual monitors that doesn't just duplicate the screen

Hi there,

I'm having trouble with my W500. I have connected a display port cable to my monitor and laptop, but it's displaying one screen on both of them.

I want to be able to actually have two screens to work with, how can I accomplish this?

I try and go into display settings and click detect, but it simply says "Didn't detect another display", which is weird because I have my second display projecting whatever is on my laptop screen.

I have Windows 8.1.

Thank you.

Re: W500 - How can I enable dual monitors that doesn't just duplicate the screen

Hi there,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As I understand that you are facing issue connecting monitor to your W500 & as you have mentioned that you are using Windows 8.1 try the following:

Once your second monitor or projector is connected, you can customize how things appear by pulling up Devices > Project. You can even toggle by pressing Win + P Then choose from four display options:

  1. PC screen only (or Disconnect with wireless projectors): You’ll see everything—open apps, websites, documents, etc.—on your PC and the secondary screen will be blank.
  2. Extend: This is the most common display method for monitors, which lets you see everything spread over both screens. With this setup, you can drag and move items between the two screens.
  3. Second screen only: Everything’s displayed on the connected, secondary screen. Your other screen will be blank.
  4. Duplicate: You’ll see the exact same display on both screens.

So according to your need you can select Extend option

I hope the above information helps.

Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Regards,

Prabhansh

Re: W500 - How can I enable dual monitors that doesn't just duplicate the screen

Hi,

It currently says "Your PC can't project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card."

I have tried to update the driver software but it's been stuck at 'Searching for online software...' for about 6 hours now, so I don't know what else to do.

Thank you.

Re: W500 - How can I enable dual monitors that doesn't just duplicate the screen

I think I may have identified the issue? I'm not sure, but I found out my display driver is in fact a 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter', when in-fact, I'm pretty sure my laptop has Intel on board graphics, so that's got me stumped.

Should I download the correct drivers off the internet and see how it goes?

Thank you.

Re: W500 - How can I enable dual monitors that doesn't just duplicate the screen

Hi Tidy,

Yeah it seem so that Display drivers are not installed in your system.

And for your particular model drivers for Windows 8.1 are not listed in Lenovo as well as in Intel official website.

Nevertheless try installing this Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD and check.

Do let us know how it goes.
