In the top left corner, the display card is squeaking (fan is off). It is extremely noisy.

Switching to the X4500 the problem still remains.
If one go to the CCC and and click "3D" -> "Standard Settings" in the "Graphics Settings"panel, the noise immediately amplify many times.

it seems your TP suffers from so called cpu or coil whine.
Please try to disable CPU powermanagement in BIOS.
This may be have an affect to total run time while run on battery.

Are all of you experiencing noise with you W500. I am keen to buy one, but am concerned about this whine, and the hard disk spinning. How would you compare to other laptops of similar specs? or to the lenovo T61?
