W520 9 cell vs 6 cell battery, AC adapter

I'm considering a 6 cell battery since I hardly ever use my W520 without a plug, but I do carry it between home and work every day.  According to the specs for the 9 and 6 cell batteries as listed here:  9 cell  6 cell , they are both the exact same size and weight.  Are these specs correct?  I was under the impression that the 6 cell doesn't stick out the back like the 9 cell and would therefore be a bit smaller and lighter.

Would anyone recommend not buying the battery from Lenovo?  Many accessories I'd buy from a third party since they're cheaper, but I feel like a battery is the kind of thing not to take a chance on (and would it void the warranty using a non-Lenovo battery?).

Also, where can I buy a second 170W AC adapter (and power cord...not sure if that's included or not, it's not shown in the picture)?  I see the part numbers listed here but I can't find on the Lenovo website where to buy one.  I'm in Canada and the AC adapter that came with my laptop is P/N 45N0113 which I don't see on that list.

Yeah no. The 6-cell is flush and is lighter.

I'm not sure if using a third-party battery voids your warranty.

You might as well call the sales hotline for the adapter. It should come with the cord.

I bought a Lenovo 135W adapter from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-55Y9317-Thinkpad-135W-Adapter/dp/B0038LYW8O/ref=pd_sim_sbs_e_1

I use it when travelling because of its smaller size. It works great with my W520 (i7-2820).

I did the same thing at huberth.  I travel with the 135W.  I also have the flush six cell.  See http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003FXRVM4/ref=ox_ya_os_product

I thought you returned your W520?

You might consider getting a mini-dock...

Hi, Biz,

Do you already own the mini-dock? If not, you might want to buy one, in part because it includes a 170W adapter. Just a thought.

I didn't return it, I sold it.

I still have a W510 for work. I have the 6 cell in it now.

Anyone want to buy a 170W dock?

Re: W520 9 cell vs 6 cell battery, AC adapter

Do you get the warning on boot with the 135W AC? My W520 warns me it's not the right one then after booting it goes into save-battery mode.

No. There used to be a setting in the BIOS to suppress the warning but it sounds like you might have a different issue.  Instead of asking the question multiple times in multiple threads, you might just start a thread about the issues you are seeing with save-battery mode.
