Re: W520 and Windows 10

I'm using Windows 10 Pro on my W520. The only real issue that I ran into was when Nvidia stopped updating drivers for the 2000M video card. I've worked around that by forcing all 3D operations to use the Intel video chipset (in the settings).

Re: W520 and Windows 10

I wasn't able to load windows 10 on my W520. like many, it hung on a loading screen. I switched to the original ssd that came with it, and vs 1903 loaded fine. the nvidia drivers wouldn't install, a problem a lot of people have had, because the driver install doesn't recognize the old quadro 2000m. however, windows update installs an nvida driver of its own, then the newer one from nvidia will recognize the 2000m. when everything was updated and running smoothly, I cloned the working windows install to the new drive--evrything's fine.

Re: W520 and Windows 10

Is anyone running Bios v1.46?  I have 1.45 installed running Win 10 x64 v1903 on a W520 4270 w an i7 2860QM 2.5, Quadro 2000M GPU, 32GB RAM 480GB NVMe PCIe SSD & 1TB 7200RPM HDD. As long as it runs OK I haven't loaded 1.46 not knowing if the whole house of cards will tumble?  I had used all Win 8.1 drivers WIn-10 Pro 1603 thru1803 were awful years of MS Tech doing almost 2 dozen clean re-installs trying to get the OS, drivers all working.  v1809 was better but had bugs, v1903 is best yet, but drivers becoming increasingly at issue due to lack of support.  The biggest issue is becoming a lack of software support as Autodesk writes new code beyond the reach of older systems.  A generation 2 i7 is becoming a problem I think.  Has anyone found a Bios update that is worth the risk past 1.45?
