Question

I just opened up the hard drive bay to repace the stock 320GB drive with a 500GB Seagate Momentus XT and found that the HDD that shipped with my computer is a Hitachi Travelstar Z7K320 which is a thin (7mm) drive instead of the a standard 2.5" drive which is 9.5mm thick.  So the rubber rails don't fit on the new drive.  Did they put the wrong drive in or is this standard?  I thought only the slim ThinkPads eg. T420s had 7mm drives.  Can I get Lenovo to send me new rubber rails?

Answer

rubber drive rails.jpg The 320gb drives are 7mm thick. The 500gb drives are 9.5mm thick. The rubber rails for the 9.5mm HDD are: FRU 41V9756 which can be ordered from the parts website.
