Hi,
looking for a powerful, portable KVM host I've received a w520 4284-4BG. Unfortunatly its slightly different than I expected (don't ask about our ordering process).
i7-2620M instead of i7-2720M (Dual instead of Quad core)
Issue:
8GB installed = fine
16GB installed = screen stays blank
To install 16GB I have to remove two small dummies that are in two of the memory bank (keyboard + bottom). Icons on the dummy seem to indicate that they are not for removal..?
Does that mean because of the Dual Core (or other reasons) I'm stuck with 8GB? If so - i guess as its a laptop there is no upgrade path, is there?
Thanks!
MrFritz
PS: Model seems to be the following one - can't find it on lenovo.com

Hi,
I can see here that its a processor limitation (8GB):

Is there a processor upgrade path, e.g. to i7-2720?

There's no CPU upgrade path from dual-core to quad-core as dual-core and quad-core models of W520 use different motherboards.

The dual-core W520 supports up to 2 DIMMs. You can, theoretically, use a pair of very expensive 8GB DIMMS to get up to 16GB RAM.
The quad-core W520 supports up to 4 DIMMs.
