HI, I just bought this laptop--W530. When I transfer files to an external HDD it freezes 10-20 seconds into the transfer. The whole system hangs and the only way is to do hold down the power button to turn off the laptop. I tested out with two external hard drives and still the same problem with eSata connection. I've tried multiple esata cables and the same problem.
USB 3.0 works fine with no problem.
Laptop is updated to latest BIOS. Both hard drives are powered with AC adapters. If someone can point me in the right direction please help me out. THANK YOU.

Have you ruled out the eSATA card?

yes, esata card worked fine with the lacie rugged xL on an Ideapad that i had previously.
