Re: W530 Power Adapters, 90W vs 135W Vs 170W

Hi there!  SO glad others have this problem.  I just received a W530 and the power supply is massive!  I will make one of these adaptors.  I have two questions which were not completely clear to me after reading this thread.

First...how are you mapping the wires between the two components?  One had three and one has five.

Second...in the picture of the final product, there is a really nice cover over the female plug.  Where does one get one of those?

Thanx!

Re: W530 Power Adapters, 90W vs 135W Vs 170W

positive and negative are doubled so 4 becomes 2 and blue is center. you ignore center on the female. not connected. you wire center to ground on the male plug.

the "really nice cover"(thanks) on the final product is unobtainable. its fully custom made by me.

you make it by first levelling out the back with hot glue and maybe a small piece of plastic to make it flat. then you use large heat shrink tubing. finally you vinyl wrap it. I had some extra scraps of carbon fiber vinyl wrap and thats what went on it. you could use cheap electrical tape alternatively.

enjoy. Smiley Very Happy

I know we can make these but is anyone mass producing them yet.  I'd like to buy one.

Re: W530 Power Adapters, 90W vs 135W Vs 170W

I really want to make one of these adapter cables since the power supply on my new W530 is HUGE!

Thank you for the part list.  I have acquired the two parts and some heat shrink tubing, but I'm still confused as to what goes where.  (Please forgive me as I've never attempted anything like this.)

The male (?) cable has a brown, blue, and black wire.  The female (? - the one with the yellow "box" plug) has 5 wires--2 red, 2 black, 1 blue.  What colors on the male connect to what colors on the female?

Re: W530 Power Adapters, 90W vs 135W Vs 170W

good question! i dont remember. XD

but essentially

you want to connect ground to middle and positive to positive. you can cut blue on the power jack and only care about middle on the harness to ground. the thinnest cable is middlepin on the wire. so you end up with red and black on the dc jack (+ and -) and you end up with + and - on the wire. rest should be simple. i dont actually have a cable and i didnt note down which one was what.

take a multimeter and the outer edge of the connector is ground. the inner core is positive and the pin is middle (that goes to ground)

And we're back...

Move delayed but still coming
