W530 Windows 10, Problem with Optimus/Nvidia

Hi... I recently installed windows 10 on my w530.. I having problems finding the correct drivers for the optimus/nvidia drivers...

In bios.

Config -> Display --> optimus

Optimus legacy OS to enable.

When i make a fresh install of windows 10 the drivers from window doesnt work..

(Get into windows but when i go into nvidia adjustment to see the logo whir, it laggs and color goes ape sh..., and it freezes and goes black) "get errors like . stopped working bla bla.."

I uinstall all drivers, intel HD 4000 and nvidia, then i install the drivers from lenovo:

http://support.lenovo.com/no/en/downloads/ds103458

same error

Try different drivers and the same occure...

Cant run on discrete graphics. When i log into windows it goes black after 5 sec..

So just wondering what drivers are ppl using? or should i just run w530 on integrated

Re: W530 Windows 10, Problem with Optimus/Nvidia

Hi there,

Welcome to Lenovo Community! Happy to have you here

As I understand that you are facing issue while installing Video drivers in your W530.

As you mentioned you have already tried uninstalling the drivers & downloading it from Lenovo site.

So uninstall the Video drivers once again & then run Lenovo System Update it can update all the missing drivers.

Also you can try installing the driver from Nvidia site.

I hope the above information helps & do let us know how it goes.

Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Regards,

Prabhansh

Re: W530 Windows 10, Problem with Optimus/Nvidia

  • installed a fresh Windows 10
  • Bios is Loaded to default, with graphics device NVIDIA OPTIMU and OS Detection for NVIDIA Optimus is Enable
  • Windows install drivers, including
    • Intel HD 4000, driver 10.18.10.4252
    • Nvidia K2000M, driver 10.18.13.5362

When I right click -> Nvidia Control panel -> Adjust picture with pre view, the logo that rotate is blinking and the colour switch between green and blue. And its lagging.. Flickering.. The screen blink black.. After a while I get  Video_TDR_Failure error and the computer restarts…

I don’t do anything. I don’t remove any of the drivers.

Starting:

http://support.lenovo.com/no/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-w-series-laptops/thinkpad-w53...

and updating my system:

Installing:

  • Lenovo Service Bridge
  • TVSU

Scanning system:

And installing:

  • Thinkpad Video features(Optimus/Quadro) – 10
  • Intel PRO/1000 Lan adapter
  • Intel Rapid storage
  • Ericsson
  • ThinkPad hotkey
  • Lenovo HID HW radio Driver
  • Connect2

Restarting

When I right click (as before) ……. -> Same error occure as before.. But this time I don’t get Video_TDR_Failure error

I use Display Driver uninstaller, and remove both driver first Nvidia then Intel. And NOT automatic install drivers are set. Restarting both times. Now both drivers are gone.  Both show Microsoft basic display adapter.

Following the link you sent me.. Lenovo system update. Clicking system update. And says:

  • No drivers are required to update for your machine

Since there is no drivers:

  • Installing NVIDIA Optimus Display Driver version 10.18.13.5474

Restarting

  • Drivers show
    • Intel HD 4000, driver 10.18.10.4358
    • Nvidia K2000M, driver 10.18.13.5474

Get the same error when I right click -> same as earlier… But I dont get Video_TDR_Failure, and the computer dont restart.

Removing once more both drivers, same procedure as earlier:

Downloading from Nvidia the newest driver:

Quadro Desktop/Quadro Notebook Driver Release 375 (376.62). Support K2000M. Installing the new drivers..

  • Driver to 3D controller Visio Controller – Not installed
  • Driver for HD sound – not installed
  • NVIDIA WMI – not installed
  • nView – failure
  • Graphic drivers – installed
  • 3D Visio – driver – not installed

At this point the sreen flicker black, and I get Video_TDR_Failure and the computer restarts. When it start up again it is just black, and the same error Video_TDR_Failure occure. Have to go to bios to run integrated to get into windows. Where I uninstall the nvidia drivers..

What can I do now?

Re: W530 Windows 10, Problem with Optimus/Nvidia

Hi again,

Just change the settings in BIOS for Graphics Device > Discrete Graphics as you are using Windows 10

And the try to install the drivers & also make sure that you delete all the instances of drivers as in some case it will be extracted in C:/ drive under SWTOOLS or DRIVER folder. And also delete the Nvidia folder which was extracted during installation.

Hopefully it helps!

Regards,

Prabhansh

Re: W530 Windows 10, Problem with Optimus/Nvidia

Test 1

I have now when I check:

  • Drivers show
    • Intel HD 4000, driver 10.18.10.4425
    • Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

Deleted both Driver **bleep** and deleted the Nvidia folder.  Restart and goes into bios:

  • Graphics Device> Discrete Graphics
  • Os detection for NVIDIA Optimus> Enable

FIRST TRY….

Get into windows. Drivers show

  • Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

I install the newest Nvidia driver once more (376.62).  But this just give me a black screen and flickering.

Uninstalled driver for NVIDIA. Repeated same procedure.

SECOND TRY….

  • Drivers show
    • Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

Using Lenovo Upgrade Service:

  • ThinkPad Video Features(NVIDIA OPTIMUS / QUADRO) – 10

Installing drivers. Restart the computer

  • Drivers show now
    • Intel HD 4000, driver 10.18.10.4425
    • Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

CONTINUE ON SECOND TRY:

Tries to install:

  • Installing NVIDIA Optimus Display Driver version 10.18.13.5474

Drivers show

  • Intel HD 4000, driver 10.18.10.4425
  • Nvidia K2000M, driver 10.18.13.5474

Get the same error as earlier. Flickering, different colour etc

Uninstall NVIDIA. Restart.

THIRD TRY:

  • Drivers show
    • Intel HD 4000, driver 10.18.10.4425
    • Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

Go into bios change to:

  • Graphics Device> Discrete Graphics
  • Os detection for NVIDIA Optimus> Enable

Gets into Windows

  • Drivers show
    • Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

Just doing a restart and check the bios once more and it show: Why have this swiched back to NVIDIA OPTIMUS?

  • Graphics Device> NVIDIA Optimus
  • Os detection for NVIDIA Optimus> Enable

LAST TRY:

I change

  • Graphics Device> Discrete Graphics
  • Os detection for NVIDIA Optimus> Disable

But this time I don’t get into windows, its just a black screen with a loading logo..

Any ideas for what I can do from here?

Re: W530 Windows 10, Problem with Optimus/Nvidia

Hi

Appreciate your patience..

Boot system changing BIOS settings with Graphics device>Discrete and OS Detection for NVIDIA Optimus is Enabled

  • Now Open Run command & type services.msc
  • Find Windows Error Reporting Service > Properties > Startup > Disabled

Restart & change settings in BIOS again to

  • Graphics Device> Discrete Graphics
  • Os detection for NVIDIA Optimus> Disabled

Try installing the drivers now & update us how it goes.

Prabhansh

Re: W530 Windows 10, Problem with Optimus/Nvidia

I did it like you said. When I then started Windows, it happened once again got a black screen, the loading logo is there but stopped, the fan is running but nothing happens.

When I then go back to:

  • Graphics Device> Discrete Graphics
  • Os detection for NVIDIA Optimus> Enable

Got a black screen, the fan is going but nothing happens. Got into Windows before changing Windows Error Reporting service.

When I go back to

  • Graphics Device> NVIDIA Optimus
  • Os detection for NVIDIA Optimus> Enable

Windows starts..

Any ideas =D ?

Re: W530 Windows 10, Problem with Optimus/Nvidia

I run Win7 on my W530, not Win10.  I have a K1000m graphics chip.

I run BIOS -> DISCRETE graphics, OS detection for Optimus -> DISABLED.

No problem running Win7 or installing the latest available retail Quadro notebook graphics driver from nVidia whenever it is released (typically monthly).

Works perfectly.  I do NOT USE OPTIMUS.  Nor Win10.

Re: W530 Windows 10, Problem with Optimus/Nvidia

I have installed windows 7 pro, installed via lenovo all the drivers.... but still i get the bug of lagging logo in nvidia adjustment.... tried the newest driver from nvidia and the same happens there.... uninstalled the driver, deleted the files... did as you in your post, but still i get a error message and te computer restarts...

How do I know if there are any damage to the graphic card?
