W530 non back lit keyboard to backlit keyboard problems

I recently purchased a great W530, and love it a lot.  It did not come with a backlit keyboard so I purchased one off ebay.  I know the keyboard works as I tried with on my x230.  Anway when on my W530 the fn space bar did not turn on the keyboard.  I went into the bios to the keyboard/mouse section and noticed there was no option to chose the fn toggle form light to keyboard or both.  I updated the bios to the newest version for the W530 and there still is no option to toggle the backlight on in the bios.  Does my version just not support this, is there a way to unlock this function in the bios?

All versions should support it. Did the thinklight work with your old keyboard?

This won't probably help you, but I did the same on my w530. It came with a non-backlit kb, I got a backlit one from ebay and installed it. It worked straight away, I can switch between backlight, thinklight and no light with the fn-spacebar. No need to change anything in the BIOS.

Re: W530 non back lit keyboard to backlit keyboard problems

Yes the link light worked, and still does with the backlit one.  However the bios is missing the follwing option:  "Keyboard Illumination Control" is missing form the bios.  My understanding is there should be three optoins there:

• ThinkLight Only
• Keyboard backlight Only
• Both

However that is not even there so all I get when I press fn spacbar is the think light.  I know the keyboard backlight works, but I am mising a whole bios option.

Re: W530 non back lit keyboard to backlit keyboard problems

I have a w530 and a backlit keyboard and I have the option. Have you updated the BIOS since you added the keyboard? What is your BIOS version?

I did update the Bios after the keyboard.  I will try again.

Boot into the bios. Check your settings and make a note of anything you changed, then hit F9 to load defaults

Re: W530 non back lit keyboard to backlit keyboard problems

Ok the bios version is 2.57.   F9 did not bring that option.  At this point I have to backlit keyboards and have tried them both.  But the requried feature never shows up in the bios.
