W530 ram into W540

I currently have 8 GB (2x4) of factory ram in my lenovo w540. A friend of mine had a w530 that died, but also had factory 8 GB (2x4). Am I able to buy that from him and place it in my 2 available slots for 16 GB of ram?

I do have a quad core. I am curious if it is compatible, and if so, is it as simple as putting them into the 2 empty slots and booting up my laptop.

Re: W530 ram into W540

Hello and welcome,

The answer is probably not.  The W530 specified DDR3 RAM, the W540 required DDR3L (low voltage) RAM.
