On the high-res-Display the Display-Type (IPS) is specially mentioned on the product sheet (http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/w-series/w540/). Does the FHD-Display (1920x1080) also come with IPS-Technology or is again a TN-Panel included?

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to inform that W540 models with a 3K display (2880x1620) comes with an IPS screen and not the FHD (1920x1080) ones.
You may refer the personal specifications reference book for further info on various models of W540 and their configurations.
Hope this helps!

Does anyone know where to find some specs on exactly what the W540 FHD screen can do as far as NITs and color range? Is it the same TN panel from the W530 by chance?
It's a different screen - since the LCD connection has been changed - and is inferior to the one seen on W510/20/30 units. Much weaker gamut, that I recall.
There's a thread about it, either here or on NBR, but I can't look for it right now.

Well if there is a review where someone measured the FHD screen of the W540, I sure can't find it. Because of this, I am leaning towards a W530 that costs $100 more than a W540 with similar specs, simply because I know the screen on the W530 is stellar even though it's not IPS.
