W540 Wifi whitelist

I have a W540 that came with the Intel Wireless-AC 7260.  The card and/or drivers has been unreliable since I got the laptop.  The latest (last?) driver update seems to be the worst.  The card simply stops communicating at all until I disable/enable it in windows, then it will be good for a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the phase of the moon.

I'd like to put another dual-band M.2 2230 (2242?) wifi card in it, and trash the 7260, but of course, there's the infamous BIOS whitelist.

So, what are my options?  What cards are permitted?  Can I request a specific card be added to the whitelist in a BIOS update?  Is this whitelist actually avaiable for viewing anywhere?

Re: W540 Wifi whitelist

Approved wifi adapters are listed in the file below
https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/w540_fru_bom_20140108.pdf

Try to disable wifi adapter' power saving feature in Device Manager

x220 • Gobi 2000 3g | hdd, msata ssd, wwan, wifi, gps -- unique hand-made config
ThinkPad 25 Special Anniversary Edition. #retro. Signed by D.Hill
T470p | X1 Carbon Gen3 | Miix 2 10" | Yoga Tablet 2-1050F (Android) + BT Keyboard
ThinkPad Stack • 2.4/5 Wireless Router, HDD 1 TB, BT Speaker, Power Bank, Mobile Projector

Do it well, worse becomes itself

Re: W540 Wifi whitelist

In other words, a list that hasn't been updated since 2014.  No new wifi cards allowed.
