W541 BIOS upgrade (GNET85WW) does not actually update?

My Lenovo W541 (System Model 20EGS01S00) is currently on BIOS Version GNET84WW (2.32 ), 9/18/2017. Today I was notifed by Lenovo Sytem Update that there is a more recent BIOS GNET85WW. So I went ahead and installed the BIOS. Nothing actually seems to have happened, and post reboot (I tried this a few times now) the BIOS version remains at GNET84WW. The Winuptp.log file says:

[2017/12/29 22:6:29]
OS = Windows 10 64bit
Driver Loading....Done
System BIOS Version -> GNET84WW
Applying BIOS Version -> GNET85WW
System EC Version -> GMHT29WW
Applying EC Version -> GMHT29WW
AC adapter/Battery check....OK.

BIOS Flashing....BIOS Flash completed.

But as I mentioned above nothing really has happened. On reboot there is none of the usual screen which is displayed when the BIOS is actually flashed. What might be happening here?

Re: W541 BIOS upgrade (GNET85WW) does not actually update?

Hello,

I don't have a W541 myself, but if you go into the W541's UEFI/BIOS firmware and check the version number in there, what does it say?

Thank you Aryeh, I double-checked in UEFI firmware page itself and it is still 2.32. MSINFO32 also shows 2.32. Today I tried disabling Secure Boot but still no luck (note that my upgrade to 2.32 had been done ~ 1 month ago and at that time no such problems were observed, and even Secure Boot was on at that time.)

Re: W541 BIOS upgrade (GNET85WW) does not actually update?

UPDATE: I later downloaded the CD version, converted the ISO to IMG using geteltorito on a Ubuntu box, and then burnt that IMG to USB using Rufus. Then booted to that USB, and then the SecureFlash program actually updated UEFI BIOS to GNET85WW (2.33 ), 12/7/2017. While I'm glad that this worked out, I wish the whole BIOS update experience improves.

Re: W541 BIOS upgrade (GNET85WW) does not actually update?

I actually have the same issue. W541 laptop won't update bios via windows.exe provided even though it displays it's successful. It still displays as version 2.36 in the bios and in windows. The ISO provided is unusable in my case. I can't extract anything of note via 7zip or Winrar. Installing the bios via the provided exe so it extracts the files is the only option since the ISO is apparently corrupt. Flash files are in a weird format for GNET90WW s01e2000.fl1 and fl2. I've attempted using rufus, iso to usb, winiso, isobuster, and universal usb. I've even attempted to burn the ISO to CD and DVD. Why is this so archaic? I haven't used CD's since the mid 2000's even in work environments.

Anyways I'm attempting to fix an issue with this laptop whereby plugging it into the wall or via battery after it's shut down results in no post. The power button flashes as if in sleep/hibernate. This is apparently a known issue (probably Intel's fault in some way) and an update to the 2.38 bios allegedly fixes. The impasse right now is that the 2.38 bios doesn't work (windows executable) and the ISO is corrupt or unusable by modern standards.
