I'm a sysadmin that had a former user turn in his W550s when he left your company.
There's a power on password set & a BIOS password set that I do not have.
I've taken out the external battery, disconnected the internal battery, and unplugged the CMOS BIOS coin battery.
Will the eventual discharge of the caps allow the factory reset to occur without further action? Or is there a jumper hiding someplace that I'll need to bridge and boot briefly to clear?

The BIOS password cannot be bypassed. There is no backdoor password. The "fix" is to replace the motherboard

And yet I just let it sit unplugged for a couple of hours and ...viola, I'm in the BIOS with no passwords and resetting boot orders, changing the settings, putting UEFI back where I want it, etc.
Methinks you should check the validity of your data, sir, as it seems to be a bit off, since I'm reimaging the machine as I type this.
