W550s speaker sounds

Hello,

I just wanted to make sure if I had a bad speaker, or others had the same problem. I just got the W550s in the mail, and as soon as I started using it in my room, I've notices a sound that the speaker would make after any sound played on windows. the sound would sound something like sssssssssssss sound, it is super weird. Does anyone else have this issue? It is pretty loud enough that you can't miss it, and it is a bit annoying...

Re: W550s speaker sounds

Does the sound come through the headphones instead if you plug a pair in?

Re: W550s speaker sounds

Oddly, yes. Even when i plug in a headphone, the ssss sound goes off for 3-5 seconds.

Do any of you guys think think this is a bad speaker, or it is a problem with the computer itself? I was wondering if anyone else had this issue. How would I even go about requesting a warranty request for such a thing?

Re: W550s speaker sounds

So the same sound does come through the headphones? What do you mean by "goes off for 3-5 seconds".

If so, this is probably the same issue as these:

Re: W550s speaker sounds

Thank ColonelONeill,

Yes, it is the same issue as those of the other series. Quite surprised that they have been an issue for this long, yet not fully addressed with a brand new line of the W550s! It has gotten to a point where it is quite noticeable, and I will be contacting Lenovo today regarding this issue...

Re: W550s speaker sounds

I have this same issue, unfortunately, and it's REALLY noticeable and annoying.

I don't think this issue is solved yet from what I've been reading. Does anyone know?

Re: W550s speaker sounds

I have this issue too. The hiss comes and goes from time to time, at a pretty much constant volume.
It'll disappear after mute. But it comes back even it's at the lowest volume.
I've updated to the newest BIOS as of 5/18/2015.
Hopefully Lenovo could solve this issue ASAP.

Re: W550s speaker sounds

I can confirm the same issue with my new W550s. Listening to audio from Youtube or Netflix is really bad and distorded with this buzzing sound. I am not sure whether this is a hardware or a software issue.

Re: W550s speaker sounds

I am investigating customer reports of unexplained speaker noise on W550s laptops.

It would help me with my investigation if you would share the product number or P/N of your device and the BIOS version it is running.

Thank you,
