W700 with intel 5350 help

2009-07-16, 15:06 PM
I recently upgraded my factory installed intel 5300 to and intel 5350
and I am having problems getting it to work. I am running vista ultimate 64. I have installed the drivers from lenovo and intel. They all indicated that "wimax is not ready". I've try running lenovo system toolbox, but the card is nor even detected. Vista detected it as an intel
wimax 2400 but when I installed the drivers it say "intel wimax 5350 link" and intel wimax 5350 function driver". I can"t even control them with the hardware on/off switch. Can anyone help?

Sorry to hear about your troubles. WiMAX may never take off. Sprint is boasting about 4G...in Baltimore. lol...And the company CLEAR has acquired it I believe. My order hasn't been shipped, so I'm going to the 5300. This order delay is crazy. A tracking number would please me, or an update.

Anyway, see if the company CLEAR (not to be confused with Clearwire) has 64-bit drivers. I highly doubt it.

AT&T and Verizon are going 4G LTE. Sprint just doesn't have the footprint. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Well, even if there is no wimax in my area, all I wanted is to get wifi working. Lenovo won't help me because I didn't buy the upgrade from them.

Intel seems to be fully behind Wimax.. though I have to agree it's future is unclear.  Some Wiki quotes:

"In the USA, the biggest segment available is around 2.5 GHz and is already assigned, primarily to Sprint Nextel and Clearwire"

"In the USA the FCC auction for this spectrum (700MHz) began in January 2008 and, as a result, the biggest share of the spectrum went to Verizon Wireless and the next biggest to AT&T.  Both of these companies have stated their intention of supporting LTE, a technology which competes directly with WiMAX."

Verizon/ATT's LTE vs. Sprint/Clearwire Wimax?  Another VHS/Betamax or BluRay/HD-DVD -like war.  The consumer often loses..

Sorry, I know that wasn't an answer to your question.

Some here have pointed out that Lenovo does things to prevent you from buying certain 3rd-party components.. the system can reject them unless you bought the part from Lenovo.

Technically they DO have the ability to do this, by coding vendor ID's and such into the hardware.  A Lenovo driver could look at the code and decide to not let the part work..

Whether this is in fact what is happening I cannot say..
