What are the house shaped symbols which sometimes appear in lower right corner of screen

Question

I get this symbol appearing in the lower right  of my screen on my W510. It is a capital A with what looks like a "house" around it.  Can anyone tell me what it is and how to get rid of it?

 

Answer

This is the hotkey feature which indicates the capslock is on. A similar symbol with a "1" in it may be displayed when the numlock function is enabled.   Press the capslock  key to turn it off and it will go away.

 

If you wish to suppress these display features, try the following:


Right click on desktop -> Screen resolution -> Advanced settings -> On-Screen display -> uncheck "Enable On-Screen display" -> OK.

 

The on screen displays when you press Fn+Fx keys will no longer appear, however they will continue to perform the function
