@tk-don I would be glad to take photos side-by side. Do you or others possibly have a web URL that would be good to have on the screens while taking the pictures? My test case would probably go something like this:
* Place machines side-by-side
* Set each machine at full brightness
* Open URL in browser on both machines and hit F11 to go full screen
* Take photo of each machine on-center
* Take photo of each machine from the top making sure to get both machines in the shot
* Take photo of each machine from the left and right - making sure to get both machines in each shot.
I don't want to over-bother my co-worker so I hope to get this in one session. Let me know if I'm missing something.

Bthurber,
Some of the images from this page would be good:
http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/viewing_angle.php
In prioritized order:
- Just a standard image showing full white in fullscreen in Paint would be nice to see from the sides.
- The first image from the Lagom.nl link with the Lagom text viewed from the front and side,
- The next ones from the Lagom sites in purple, and blue from the sides
This amounts to a lot of pictures and time, so it is perfectly fine if you can't do all of them ![]()
Rather than setting each machine to full brightness, I would set it to what appears to be the same brightness on both, so that the camera doesn't "overpower" one of the displays, and make the other look dark. This will probably mean reducing the brightness of the Dell a bit. Otherwise your plan sounds excellent.
Thank you very much in advance. And no, definitely don't bother your co-worker about this, altheough he/she will probably understand the mission you're on if you show him/her the P50 display ![]()

@Bthurber, Just to make sure you saw my last reply (you haven't been online since your last post, so you might not even have seen my reply) ![]()

Hi there,
do you know if the 4K display for W541 is compatible with P50?
Thanks
Alberto

Hi Alberto,
The W541 could only be configured with a FHD and 3K display. The 3K display is 15.5", from all the advertisement I've seen, so the bezel needed would be slightly different. If there indeed is a difference in W541 bezels I don't know.
As to working in a P50; probably doable, but the EDID might need to be re-written in order not to not be "blacklisted", making brightness adjustments impossible to modify.

I've been meaning to reply to this thread but have been busy. I purchased a p50 with 4k display a few months and had the same issues mentioned here and ended up returning it. The darker corners were highly annoying but i noticed a similar issue with a FHD display in a e460 (display brand unknown) but also in a t440p with FHD LG display. I'm still wondering if it was the coating causing this? For the t440p i ended up replacing the display with a FHD model from AUO and it is much better with no major issues like the others. So for now i will stick with a t440p.

Dell XPS 15 UHD and Lenovo P50 UHD side-by-side comparison shots. I had to do this quickly so I didn't get all the shots I wanted.

Assuming they both are on maximum brightness and images look like it does IRL, that kind of killed my interest for the P50 ![]()

Thanks for posting the comparison images. It is much appreciated. I was expecting the Dell to have a better display, but not the difference to be THAT huge.
They actually pretty well describe the issue with my 4K P50 display too: Annoyingly narrow viewing angles - not regarding contrast ratio, but brightness drop-off, like some sort of privacy filter has been applied. RIghtmost part of the screen appears much darker, and magically turns brighter when you position youself to the rightmost part of the laptop.
The Dell screen appears very white in comparison - is it 9300K ? The P50 is 7500K in all pictures, right?
I can't believe Lenovo is trying to pull this off in their top-range laptop, when Dell clearly has no problem with their screens by comparison. That's a good reason for sure to ditch Thinkpads altogether.
Not a single comment from Lenovo engineering/technicians/staff of why they opted for this solution. They should have been aware of what the competition is using or will use. Not a single comment on how they plan to fix this. This is completely unacceptable.
