Where do I download APS driver for Thinkpad P52?

2018-09-22, 11:11 AM

Greetings to all,

Recently I bought a Thinkpad P52 Xeon , it is brilliant, 4k touch screen is great and performance is ready for most design work.

Only problem is about Lenovo Active Protection System, it works in the original windows (the pre-installed 500G hard disk), after I installed a NVMe SSD and reinstalled Windows 10 and all the drives (include UWP Lenovo Vantage from Windows Store) in NVMe SSD.

The Active Protection System settings are not showing in Lenovo Vantage setting like suspending protetion, how do I get it back? There is no separate APS download available, my colleague who uses P51 has separate  APS download available but it is not for P52.

Many thanks to everyone. APS is important to protect HDD data.

APS drive link (not for P52, at least not listed in supported ThinkPad Systems)

Sometimes drivers do not appear for a specific device, especially generic drivers like APS so you should go ahead and use the driver you found. Over the years, I have seen a number of devices similar to APS where I had to go find a generic Lenovo driver

Thank you for your reply, I wish what you said is correct, but it is not.

I recovery the HDD and boot from it, APS shows in lenovo vantage, I tried to install APS, but it said "The system does not support Active Protection."

It is marveled that lenovo did not provide the APS drives.  Another thing I had to declare is when I install drivers, I take out the Hard Drive Disk, maybe that is reason, but how can I install full drivers?

I need

If I remember correctly from my older ThinkPads, APS is a system device, not a hard drive feature.  If you had APS and were missing the driver, you would see the device listed in Device Manager.   On my W541, there is a APS driver. This is the link for the W541 APS driver:

If you get an error when you attempt to install it, then the P52 does NOT have Active Protection System.  Remember that this is a high0end laptop and I would believe that Lenovo assumes most people will use SSDs and not HDs.

Did you remove the 500G hard drive when you installed the SSD? One reason APS might not show up in Vantage (just guessing) is that if you have SSD:s only. The APS was designed to prevent damage to HDDs, but as SSDs do not have moving parts, it beats the purpose of APS.
