Will P53 get Comet Lake CPU?

2019-08-28, 13:24 PM

Hi, after all these delays in release and shipment, my P53 is shipped. However, I read that some new Thinkpads will get Comet Lake CPU upgrade. Will this also happen to P53? Looks like after waiting for months, some of us may get a laptop that is out of date already before arrival.

You are missing something basic.  The new Comet Lake CPUs are all the low power (15-watt TDP) processors.  In recent years, the more powerful H series CPUs, like in the P53, have been coming out more than 6 months after the low-power ones.  If you look several months in the future,, there is always a new one coming and whatever you get will be out-of-date soon.

Thanks for the clarification. For xeno vs. i9's effect on battery life and fan noise, am I correct that we still need to wait for users to report?

I think that even after users report, comparisons will be questionable, at best.  A poster is unlikely to have one of each side-by-side.  You and I could be listening to the same machine and one of us could think it sounds loud and the other could think normal.  Battery life depends on similar subjective data - everyone does different things .  You would need to have 2 machines with the only difference being the CPU side-by-side.  If you would like to buy me the machines, I would be glad to do the test. :)
