I have tried several times to install the Windows 10 1903 feature update on my W530 with no success.
The update proceeds normally and then after a reboot it will get to a point where it just puts up a message and indicated it is undoing the changes. It reboots and I am back to square one.
Last week the message in Control panel -> Windows Updates changed and said something to the effect that the new update was not compatible with my machine and it would let me know when it was ready. I checked again this evening and it said the update was availible. Tried the install again and it fialed the same way.
Lenovo does not mention that the update is compatible with W530 or W540 here https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht508488
Will I ever be able to update to 1903?

Have you tired updating all of the ThinkPad W530's device drivers using the Lenovo Vantage or Lenovo System Update utilities before attempting to install the Windows Version 1903 update? Also, if there is anything plugged into the ThinkPad W530 ports (USB, ExpressCard, SD Card, etc.), eject it before running the update.

Don’t give up.
I had the same issue as you in that an upgrade would fail and roll back.
I did a clean install of 1809 from Windows 7 on my trusty W700 a few months ago figuring it would fail and I’d just toss the PC. But instead to my surprise it installed on my RAID 1 Array.
About a month ago I started the upgrade to 1903 once again figuring it would fail but it upgraded successfully.
So far the only issue I’m seeing is it won’t successfully wake from Sleep or Hibernate so I just disabled Hibernate and Fast Startup.
So if you can/want to attempt a clean install you might have a better outcome.
